Lagun Table mod

Anyone familiar with this style of table mounting system? A few videos of installs on youtube, but could only find it for sale from UK on eBay. It's similar to what Mike Norris did in his Chinook remodel for a clever "sofa/dinette mod" (two good youtube vids).

I'm planning to put one of these in my Chinook (too!). I'm familiar with them from boating and I've never heard a bad review.

Two places I know of to get them are svhotwire.com (Florida sailors who have a small business - just call as the website leaves a bit to be desired) or http://www.marineteak.co.uk/ - they are in the UK but ship to the US often and many US sailors have bought one from them.

A Danish sailor has a great two-part video review here - part II is the one to watch if you are limiting video downloads (it has the table installed whereas part 1 is more of an introduction).

There is apparently a "knock off" one, but from what I have read I'm going to go with the original real Lagun.

Lagun Table Mount delivered!
Took only 3 days from the UK! ("everything boat" on eBay)
High quality aluminum construction, very well made. Now to design some sort of steel plate floor bracket to mount it too. Not confident enough to mount it to the MDF dinette seat "box". Next, is to get a ROCA folding teak table top.....
The plan is to have the advantages of being able to just fold up and swivel the table out of the way, and have a "sliding slats extension" from the aft seat box to support the cushions when using the dinette as a bed, since the OEM table setup will no longer be there.

Nifty! I've been thinking of ordering one too, so good to hear your experience. I'll be very interested to see what you come up with for a floor mount - I haven't ever seen that (on boats there is typically a settee [aka couch/bed] front to mount it to).

I haven't heard of the table top you mention - will go check it out.

Oh excellent! I thought that was a perfect tabletop, but wasn't as sure about being able to reasonably get it here as I was about the Lagun part. This is the better second top he went with, not the "bad" original top, right? (I didn't realize it was from the same shop? Or where did you get it from?)

Edited to add: Okay, looks like it is the "good" second table top. I have a pretty good feel for the US ordering/delivery of the Lagun base from the UK shop; how was your ordering experience from this shop? I'd like to get the same top.

Oh, and last question (for now!): Did you get the 70,80, or 90 cm long table top? And was that the same (do you know) as in the video? I kind of have a feel of the proportion of that one since seeing it on the base.

Yep, it's the second "good top". I actually haven't ordered the top yet. Will order from "svb" (link in previous post).
Playing around with which size to get. Leaning towards the middle (80cm) size. Need to do a mockup....

You've motivated me (and a friend who is also going to order since we are camped nearby each other) to get going on that order. Thanks! I'll have to see if I can figure out which size top Mads ordered, just to compare. Right now I have a 33" long (and 20" wide) table in my rig (one that I made not the stock one) and it seems reasonable. Let's see, that's about 83 cm, so maybe the 80cm "middle bear" is the one.

If/when you do order the top, I'd be interested to know which size and how the ordering experience to the US goes.

I have to admit that I'm still skeptical that what is basically a "cantilever leg support" can actually be as sturdy as the old flip-down table leg. After reading several reviews, the results seem to suggest "yes, it does". All the more reason to do a tabletop mockup.

What I can't quite picture is how you would mount it to the floor vs. to a vertical surface. That's not to say you haven't thought of a clever way though.

I'm not sure it would ever seem as "still" as a wall-mounted table, just because it can move by design (laterally). So I would only want one if I wanted/needed the swiveling type features it has (or the quick demountability)

If it's going to be mounted on a settee face, then it almost seems you'd want two settees (aka twin beds), because it slightly "ruins" one settee for a fully open couch while the table is up. I have seen them mounted to the base of a U in a U-shaped dinette, but we don't quite have that space.

Or maybe I should just ask what you have in mind for it?
