Flojet Portable RV Macerator Waste Pump Installation & First Impressions

Post by M_MINCEY »

I’ve been wanting to add a macerator setup to my RV for a while now, but I didn’t want to gamble on the cheaper, off-brand units that often fail when you need them most. Flojet has a solid reputation in the RV and marine world, but the price (around $267 new) was the main thing holding me back.

After doing some research, I found a used Flojet 18555-000A Portable Macerator Pump (12V DC Waste Pump) on eBay for about $95 shipped. The seller had strong feedback, so I decided to take a chance — and it turned out to be exactly as described: clean, tested, and fully functional.

To get it up and running, I wired it using a pair of 12-gauge leads terminated with Anderson Powerpole connectors for quick disconnect. This setup makes it easy to connect directly to my Pecron power source or the RV’s auxiliary 12V system.

For monitoring flow and waste, I added a Valterra T1023 ClearView 90° Hose Adapter, which works great for seeing when the black and gray tanks are flushed clean.

Performance-wise, the Flojet makes quick work of both tanks and allows me to pump directly to my home bathroom, which saves a ton of time compared to hauling out to a dump station. The self-priming feature and integrated run-dry protection are also nice touches for peace of mind during use.

Overall, for under $100 and a little DIY wiring, this setup has been a huge convenience upgrade. Definitely worth considering if you want a reliable macerator without paying full retail.

Hopefully this helps anyone looking to do something similar.
