Onan Microlite 4000 Won't keep running

Post by Airkooled »

Hi Ya'll,
I'm stuck on this one. I have an Onan Microlite 4000 that won't stay running. So far.
I drained and changed to oil.
Checked Spark. It goes away when you release the starter button.
R&R control board
Replaced spark plug.
What I could find is that the control board takes over the ignition when you release the starter button. But I am still loosing spark!
Any ideas?

Thank you

Don't know if this going to help, but take a look at the Reference section, and see if you can find the Service Manual for the Onan. If it is not there, I can look around and upload a version and put it there. There are some troubleshooting steps in the Service Manual that I think should be helpful for you.

When you are priming and cranking, the generator uses the vehicles 12 volt battery to power the fuel pump and ignition. Once you release the start button the systems rely on voltage suppiled by the generator charge windings. Voltage from the battery, used to power the control assembly and the fuel pump while pressing start, are replaced with output voltage from the generator charge winding. The control assembly senses this output for the start disconnect function. If the generator field windings arent charging then there isnt going to be any current to power the thing once you release the start button.
