Refrigerator Fan install in rooftop vent

Being in the South, it can get pretty hot and humid. When running frig on propane I noticed frig temp rises to high 40's when it gets in 80's and above. Freezer stays cold enough but still rises close to 10 degrees from negative or low number.

Earlier in week I installed a Titan Multi-purpose Rack fan (w/ dual fans) under the refrigerators roof vent and immediately saw positive results. The fan was very easy to install and wire. The fan comes with a controller that I ran down to area behind fridge and stuck it to the dinosaur board. The controller has an automatic setting and manual, the manual has 6 speeds.

It is set up to draw hot air up and out the top vent. Once installed and working you can feel the hot air being pushed out the top vent, even on low settings. in 80* day my fridge dropped 4-5 degrees to low 41* in a couple of hours after being at 46*.

The last two days were 90+ degrees with yesterday being a high of 94. Inside the coach area it was 91* (In driveway). During both days the fridge stayed 39* on the automatic setting, and I didn't even turn on little fan inside fridge. Freezer stayed around -1. Also, the fridge setting was on 4. Next test I will do at a setting of 5.

I have never seen fridge hold these temps in high 80's let alone 90's. Power draw is minimal, fan draws .48A and controller max of 1A and well worth it. On auto setting controller turns off fan under 68*, increases from 68 - 113* and full speed over 113*.

It be nice if you can show us some pictures. The previous owner installed a solar-powered muffin fan for the fridge, but it was rusted/disintegrated due to the sun. I have not have the need for it yet, but maybe I will get it done when I am done with my other projects.

I would be interested in doing this. Can you provide more details: Part Number for fan, where you tapped into 12v, and pictures also would be very helpful. Good job!

The model I chose is the Titan Multi-Purpose Rack Fan for Vent, TTC-SC22, I think it was $65 or so.

I first installed the fan under the roof refrigerator vent cover. Unscrew the 4 bolts and the cover easily comes off. I do not have picture but there is a flat metal mesh screen that covers vent hole. I simply laid the fan on the mesh screen, centered it and lined up fan to outside edge of vent cutout to get most air movement.

Once in place I used 4 zip ties to attach to metal screen and 4 corners of fan.

To hook controller up, I used the double sided tape and stuck controller to green electronics box cover behind refrig vent on side of rig behind refrigerator. To run the electrical power and thermostat to the top of roof I cut a small hole in mesh vent and ran a straightened coat hanger down, then I taped cords to coat hanger, went on top and lifter coat hanger and cords to top and connected to fan. For the thermostat cord, I simply came up through top then put down thru mesh so it hung just above cooling fins, 6" or so, and zipped inplace.

The 12v electrical was last and the connection is shown in below pic, it is under electronics cover:

Once working I replaced vent cover and caulked the 4 screws.
