Vacuum cleaner

Post by Concourse »

I figured it might be good to document the Chinook factory optional central vacuuming system. It's an RV central vac system typically seen in large Class A motorhomes. But Chinook didn't do things cheap or easy so no Dustbuster or them! The vacuum is powerful, hose covers every part of the coach and cab, and has broom+attachments.

Interesting! Although, Chinook did do the "dustbuster thing." My '99 has (well, "had") an included Dustbuster type vac (plugged in to the DC outlet in the kitchen base cabinet for power). It stowed in a little velvet lined cutout in the shelf under the kitchen sink. All slick and tidy but it wasn't a very good vacuum. Since I'm going to go to a hard floor at some point, I don't want to give up the room for a "central" vac. Also, I like to do various projects, so for me, if I'm going to have a vac, something I can use outside or on the boat, etc. is more useful.

Still though, not to take away from your point that Chinook put in a nice central vac for those who selected the option. And it's kind of cool to see where it went. I have as similar space under where the rear club chair goes, but it's just "blank" storage area. I can definitely see many people making good use of it, especially with all the carpet.

Yah, I guess what I meant was that the option wasn't a dustbuster. Not a knock on dustbuster but that Chinook put a big RV central unit into the small RV. They tended to do construction techniques and features that larger RV would have but did it in the 21' size.

The central vac runs off of 110V only so either the generator or shore power. Like a home central vac just lift the inlet door and the vac turns on. I thought I had a photo of the Vacuum unit that is under the curbside of the rear dinette but I can't find that photo. As seen in the photo it is a Maxum RV2000............ ..BUT...........that's a reseller/relabeller name on a.....Dirt Devil CV950! Yes, its a Dirt Devil.

The hose is 30 feet long.

Model…….…. Dirt Devil CV950
Dirt Capacity…. 1 gallon

CFM…………… 120
Dimensions…. 6.25" x 7" x 14.5"
Air Watts……… 450
Voltage………. 120 volts (AC)
Water Lift…….. 105"

Motor has a thermal protector and automatically resets when cooled.
