freshening up the diesel

Hey mark, hope you don't mind me following up on your thread, and for anybody else thinking of doing this kind of work on their van. I purchased the riffraff tool you mentioned. It has been awhile since i have been excited about a new tool. I have a 1996 e350 van in at my work that i am doing injectors on and found two cups that were damaged and I wanted to replace. Of course one of them was cylinder number 3 as you know is the cylinder with even lower overhead clearance than the rest. this tool was able to pull and install the cups without my customary pulling the engine to use my older style tooling. I took some pics of the tool in action so i though i would post them. I did end up removing a rocker shaft on cylinder 3 just to make it easier to get a socket in there.

I am driving my chinook diesel from San Diego to Albuquerque next week. 2500 miles round trip. First trip since the diesel freshen up....

I am so glad you posted about this Mark, I just thought in the world of 7.3l vans, pulling the engine was the necessary evil that had to be done and that's what I have been doing. This has been a real game changer! The tool was very reasonably priced as well. When I bought my old tooling almost ten years ago it cost me around 800 bucks. This set was under 400. Total no brainer. I had my two sleeves pulled, heads prepped and new cups installed in about 35 minutes......This is going to save me hours in the future and makes it doable for me to do the cups as peace of mind when I put the new injectors and hpop in my concourse....That will be quite the long haul trip. I hope its care free for you!
