Anyone know if this bumper still avail anywhere?

Post by 68camaro »

Rear bumper on this 2001 Baja looks great, anyone have idea if this if still available?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chinook-Baja-4 ... ition=3000

I believe this was an option on new Baja's:

Off-Road #3: Custom Rear Bumper/ Compressor Package
● Custom rear box bumper with step
● Quick-Air 2, air compressor
● 2.5 gallon air tank with
inflator and gauge
● Rear-mount high-lift jack
● Off-road gas can with tie-
down bracket
● Rear-mount shovel and
bracket
● Deluxe first-aid kit

Those side boxes look cool. Maybe they just bolt to the central hitch/step unit like the dinky stock "bumperettes" do? Mine are a little bent and I've been thinking of what to replace them with. They were never very strong to begin with...

ASAP metal fab made many of the custom metal parts for Chinook, and they are still in business at least as of a year or two ago. I think many of the Bajas had similar bumpers, as I have seen the same style on more than one. Here is the contact info for ASAP:

Cool, thanks, I'll give them a call Monday:) Hopefully, they still have templates and cost is reasonable.

I have already contacted them and they are working up a bid for me for these bumpers. I will post the info when I have it. Mark

I won't be surprised if they give you a quote of $2-3 grands. Made in America is expensive, and very happy that these excellent fabrication shops can stay in business.

Based on other custom bumpers I have been pricing (aluminess, weldtec etc.) $2 to 3 thousand is probably a "going rate"

Just an update... They have managed to dig up the old blueprints for these bumpers. They will now work on pricing. I asked about the internal compressor but they did not know who provided it. Mark

Mark:
I read somewhere that the compressor is called Quick Air 2.

It will be nice if anyone can confirm the info.
