Anyone Ceramic Coat their rig?

Post by 68camaro »

Hi, has anyone ceramic coated their rig? I am looking at getting mine detailed as gelcoat is looking old and once detailed ceramic coating will protect from oxidation and make look much nice for years and years......if properly maintained. The "maintaining" part makes me pause as I don't like washing this thing.

However, I was wondering if anyone here tried it.

I used this hybrid ceramic wax, and it was extremely easy to apply and provides a nice water-repellent and shiny surface: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R5 ... UTF8&psc=1 Basically, I just sprayed and sponged it in and washed it off with a hose. Be careful not to let it sit on the fiberglass too long or it can leave a blue stain (that eventually will fade in the sun).

Clay, how many bottles did you use for one application? I brought the Wet Look a few years ago, and like you, I was not happy about it, and I am reluctant to re-apply it on the rig if there are better alternative.

Hi Chin,

I used less than 1/2 of the bottle. It took a few months of hand-sanding (finishing with 3000 grit for the shine) to get rid of the Zep! But it was good for the first three years.

Thank you, Clay. I will get a bottle and try it on the top of the rig, where the Zep is all gone. If it works, I will apply it all over the rig.
