how to remove door from dometic Royal refrigerator

Post by Flame »

I have an original 1998 concourse refrigerator in my rv. The bottom plastic door panel broke off and the black plexiglass panel falls down to the floor. I need to remove the door to get the panel to slide completly out so I can make a lower l-shaped panel replacement. Can anyone tell me how to remove the door??

My plastic part did the same thing. I taped glass on using blue painters tape. Went to local hardware store and purchased aluminum angle 1/8 in thick. Using existing plastic as a pattern made four new pieces, two for fridge and two for freezer and remounted. Stock angle is the correct width just need to relieve the ends and countersink the mounting holes. Looks great and will never break again.

I did crawl under the door to remove the 3 screws and the broken pieces. Just now I put the broken pieces back in place with gorilla glue and will let it dry overnight. If nothing else I have acomplished putting together a pattern to make me an aluminum one. We are not normally rough enough to break our refrigerator but during the hurricane we went to home depot and bought a window air conditioner unit in the box. When they loaded it into the back they just shoved it in and it hit the bottom bracket. I heard something crack but told them not to worry about it. I was just glad to make it fit inside the door at all!! We have made 2 pretty long trips since then and just today did it fall down and hung the carpet when I opened the door!! Thought about just making 3 very small L shaped brackets. All it has to do is hold that light piece of plexiglass. I could polish out the black and make it look nice I think.

You can take the black panel to a local plastic supply shop and they will cut you a new one for a grand total around $15 bucks. In otherwords dont spend the money to buy a new panel from an RV shop. The plastic supply outlets can cut you one in just about any color you want.

An even easier solution to trying to buff out scratches, is remove the panel completely, flip it over and peel off the paper on the back, you now have a nice new surface, reinstall.

The whole problem with removing the panel is you have to remove the door first to get it to slide all the way out. My problem is I do not know how to remove the door.

On mine you have to open the fridge door to gain access to the lower door hinge screws. Once you have that lower hinge loose close the door most of the way while pulling the bottom of the door out away from the fridge and it should drop out of the upper hinge. Reverse procedure to reinstall.

Thank you .I will look at that. My gluing job dried well overnight and I reinstalled the piece back on and so far so good. But I am now armed with knowledge what and how to fix this IF it does not hold up.
