Convection oven upgrade
Convection oven upgrade
Good Sunday morning all, I am posting this one photo of the Recpro (High Point) 1.1 cf convection microwave I just installed in my 2003 Chinook Concourse. In hindsight I should have taken photos of the modifications I had to make to the top and back ductwork. Final result, it was a very close fit and I had to cut about 3” x 3” out of top right upper duct. The rear duct had to be trimmed in the same corner by about 3” x 2” and top bent down I. The rear by about 3/4” all the way across. Taped up the openings with metal duct tape. Extremely close tolerances but it works. I hope this helps anyone considering the change. Happy camping!

Hello Maine RV.
Now that you have had the convection microwave for a couple of months I am curious to know what you think of it. What types of food have you cooked in it? Have you experienced any problems/issues with the installation modifications you had to make in order for it to fit in the Concourse cabinet? Overheating?
Thanks for sharing this information! Sharp no longer makes Model R-820BK so I am looking for a good alternative.

Hi there,
I apologize for the delay in responding,
When I purchased my 2003 Concourse the previous owner had installed a cheap table top replacement microwave that vented in the back. I don't believe it was used and if so maybe for popcorn or instant coffee. '
The convection oven I replaced it with came with front vent duct work which I had to modify to fit (sheet metal cutout from some of the duct to accommodate a tight fit in the right rear upper corner, I covered the area I modified with furnace / metal duct tape.
I'm certain that it is safe as installed.
Very tight fit, including the front trim, which was a litter bigger diameter than the original.
I have reheated a rotisserie chicken and it came out nice and crispy, I have also made some squash muffins (six in a round pan), and a Digorno's frozen pizza which came out nice and crispy as well.....plans to expand the menu though.
While it is possible to use it as a conventional oven to cook whole chickens and roasts, etc. given the limited space and the heat generated in the coach I wouldn't recommend cooking with it for more than a half hour, unless of course it's freezing outside.
I hope this helps.................

Thanks, Maine RV, for your detailed response! Just the kind of information I was hoping for
. It is good to know in advance what we will replace our microwave with once it needs to be replaced.
