We are finally on a trip out of Texas...yea!!!
However, we are hearing a steady hum coming from under the fuse panel...the only thing we are doing differently is playing the TV from cable in this campground. Tom traced the noise and says the box under says converter. Should we be worried?
We are at Lake of the Ozarks, MO...of course Tom is fishing another tournament and the dog and I are left to enjoy TV and wifi. If I need to turn off the cable please advise.
Thanks

Re: Converter under fuse panel
Typically what is "behind the fuse panel" in the brown converter box is a charger. If the charger is on and warm, there is a fan. This may make some noise but you would recognize it as fan noise. However, they can just hum, due to their use of a ferro-resonant transformer. You are probably hearing it because you are plugged in and it's "working." Doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong if it's not getting overly hot, smelling like burning electrical, or etc. It won't/shouldn't hum if you are not plugged in (maybe with generator on but I presume you wouldn't hear it over the generator).
There is also an automatic transfer switch in there, which "chooses" generator vs. shore power. It may potentially hum, but I don't think it would really be audible.
If you like, you can upgrade your charger. This may take care of the hum, and will also be kinder to batteries (nowadays you can get a "smart" charger). We can always talk more about this later.
One thing you may want to do at some point, is check/tighten all the little screws that hold the wires into the fuse positions. They can loosen up over time and cause some issues (not hum though).
In summary, presuming you are plugged in, hearing a hum from the brown box (converter) - as long as there is nothing excessively smelly/hot, etc. - is not necessarily abnormal.
Happy camping! Great to hear you are out in your new Chinook. Good year, too

Re: Converter under fuse panel
Mine crackels/hums at various times. I haven't been able to make the connection of what sets it off. Pretty sure the tv is one though. I noticed it before I upgraded the converter and after. It changed, but there's always a noise it seems.
When things get shut down for sleep, it stops.. So haven't looked into it more.
