Installing a Laguna swivel table top question

One note Blue, the Laguna instructions said they included the nice looking lamenated piece of wood specifically to space out away from seat cushions. This is one time I actually followed the directions!!

I just saw this for some reason. One clarification: Is this the Lagun product? Or is there a competitor named Laguna? If it's a Lagun, then that kind of makes sense as I think about it. Because depending on the surface one is mounting to, that wooden block could be too small (there can be a lot of force on that bracket!).

Oftentimes on boats there is a protrusion on the front you need to get around with the leg. Usually not a cushion, but rather the wooden fiddle that holds the cushion in place -- but same concept.

Anyway, if they are saying that in the instructions, then it's pretty clear! I don't remember reading that, but the last Lagun I installed was in 2016, so it either might not have been there, or I might not have noticed it (this was on my buddy's RV, and due to large cushion overhang of about 5", we had to build a whole little pedestal type thingie to mount to and to distribute the force).

It certainly complicates things when you have a couch like in the Chinook that you might want to pull out vs. having it fixed in position. I wish Lagun would make some sort of floor mount (but that doesn't work in a boat, so I can see why they don't).

They sure are fun to swivel around - there's just something about all the articulation that's so cool.

Ha ha. I wish I had a photo of it because if you saw it, you'd immediately say, "Look at that pedestal type thingie!"

But hey, 1,000 words will fix that. So basically it was a platform couch cantilevered about 8" over the base board. Sorry 3/4" wooden spacer, but you aren't going to work. So we built what was essentially a box, 8" deep, as tall as the base (about 12"), and about 6" wide. The box didn't need all six sides, but essentially that is what it was. We reinforced the base's wall from the inside (because it was only 1/4" plywood), then mounted the table base bracket to the box, and then mounted the box (ahem: pedestal type thingie) to the base wall of the couch.

That particular couch was originally a pull out. In this case that feature was no longer used, but it could have been accomodated easily; one would just need to demount the table leg from the base bracket in order to pull it out.

Now if this "pedestal type thingie" were on a boat it would have had a more nautical sounding name and cost ten times as much

I was curious because I have heard of a few knock-offs of the Lagun, and how clever it would be of them to call it "Laguna" and potentially confuse people. I could totally see that.

I believe that would have copyright lawsuit written all over it!! True story...I used to bass fish professionaly and a good friend of mine had a small 2 man company and made my spinnerbaits. They were called TEXAS TWISTER. He had been making these and selling them locally for about 2 years when he was contacted by another Huge tackle company called MR. TWISTER. Now, all THEY manufactured was rubber or "soft plastic" worms with a curly tail that made it "twist". They sued my buddy and said he had to change his name!! Lawyers said my buddy could have won this because the products were 2 TOTALLY different types of lures but...he did not have the money to fight this big corporation in court so he had to "fold"!!! Just because it had "Twister" in the name!! Why didn't they just go after the childrens gameboard you played on the floor with big colored dots called TWISTER? Because HASBRO is a LOT BIGGER than MR.TWISTER ever thought about being!! It all sucks but it caused my buddy a ton of money to "rebrand" and repackage everything!! He never did recover!!
