I'm on my third Chinook. The first one I should not have bought, and I got out of it what I had in it, so I felt good about that. It was a 1990 with 53,000 miles on it, and a new 460 fuel injected motor. Why the new motor you might ask? All I can speculate based on the receipts, is that the original owner overheated it, or his wife or sister did. He was in a partnership with another couple, who should not have been motor home owners. They also ran it off the road and the rear end wasn't tracking properly, and needed to be fixed. The straw that broke my back was they ran it under a low overhang carport, or parking garage, and collapsed the roof. As you know, the early model Chinooks with the flat roofs can't take the same abuse as the newer tiered roofs.

My second Chinook was also a 1990 with 114,000 miles on the 460 V-8. It needed some love (about 3K) but was a good Chinook overall and I enjoyed it. I redid the graphics and put new flooring in it, and it sold within 24 hours when I let it go. I did a thread on here but I need to re-upload the picture.

My current Chinook is a 1997 Side Entry Concourse with the v-10 motor. This motor has 53,000 miles on it. I've used it extensively this summer, and I must say, I like the side entry. I can sit right on the bed and cook, clean dishes, and get dressed. The bathroom is right there as I get up in the night about 3 times, and the bed does not need to be taken down when I break camp. My granddaughter sleeps on the dinette when she comes along, otherwise it remains a dinette when I'm flying solo, an ideal spot to sit with a surface in front of you. I had to go through all the systems and fix them, as this unit sat for a long time. I've also had to do brakes (they don't like sitting) and two front tires, date coded 2000. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either, they still had good tread, which leads me to believe most of the miles were put on this Chinooks in it's very early days.

Love Chinooks. I'm probably going to be a Chinook owner for the rest of my life. I need to review how to post pictures.

I thought I would give an update on the tread I started many miles ago. I bought the Chinnok with 41k miles and I now have 93k with no issues other than routine maintenance. It has never left us stranded. Never failed to make it up that mountain. According to my scan gauge, while running about 63 mph with the air conditioning on it’s getting about 13.3 mpg. Then it drops to near 11 mpg once I’m off the interstate. No complaints all things considered. As I approach the 100k mile mark I feel confident this engine has a long way to go. Knock on wood.

Highway cruising feels like it is hardly working, plenty of passing power.

1998 Concourse...60,000 miles now. I put around 30,000 of those on it. Oh...Triton V-10 and so far so good.

95k here. The folks I purchased it from bought it with 5k miles, and had it for 17 years. METICULOUS maintenance records, and the fluids show it. The plugs were even changed at around 90k! I'm hoping she will run to 200k.

I think she will. Mechanical things like this usually reward those who take care of it.

Heya,

New around here. I am looking at a late 90s Concourse with the V10. It has 144k miles on the engine. Should I steer clear? Not looking to replace a motor right after getting it.
