Untapped Storage

Post by VTSweetpea »

The rear closet in our Concourse always seemed under utilized- hanging clothes from the closet rod seemed to eat up unnecessary real estate. The little deep pocket that went down in the corner next to the genny compartment always was a conundrum as to what to put in it. We didn't want to not use that space but also wanted easy access to whatever we put in there. After a lot of head scratching and brainstorming we came up with this solution-
  • Remove the closet pole and install several shelves- allows storing folded or rolled clothes. Can get much more in.
  • Cut an access from the closet front to the deep pocket, install a shelf and make it a shoe cubby
  • We installed a piece of plexi as a floor over the top of the deep pocket so we can now use the entire closet bottom for storage
  • Installed small hanging baskets and utensil holder on back of closet door.
Installing the shelves was not that difficult. Support strips were screwed to the closet wall abutting the refrigerator and to the plywood backing behind the carpeted wall at the rear of the coach.
If you are looking for extra storage space this might be worth considering.

Fixture above the cubby is a light for the entry steps. Old step light came out when we redid the flooring.

Nicely done! I would do this mod in a minute if I didn't need the closet storage height for my oversize camp chairs. :(

I see people hang them on the ladder, sometimes inside a case.
