I'm having a problem with the search function.

Post by Blue~Go »

Hi Manitou,

I'm having a problem with the search function. I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago, and waited a bit to see if it would magically heal, but it hasn't. I'm also not sure if it's just me (although I do searches on a lot of forums and have not seen this problem elsewhere).

At any rate the problem is that when I search something, I always get this response. Note that this is even when I'm NOT searching "too common" or "too short" words. For example, I searched "scan guage" (but without quotes) and got this, which is what I get for all my searches now:
search issue.jpg
Hmm, that came out kind of small, so here is the text.

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: scan gauge. You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wild cards.

To my mind the combination of scan and gauge make that reply nonsensical (and it did the same for other searches of a similar type). I would understand it if I were searching for am at or. In this case I knew I had posted about the Scan gauge and was looking for my post, but search wouldn't let me find it. (I used a workaround and looked through a list of my posts, but obviously that negates the actual use of searching.)

Is there any chance you could check into this and/or enlighten me? Thanks, BG

If I type scan gauge into search I get two hits and no error message.

The forum wigets had a meeting (to which I was not invited). They've come to the agreement that you need a little more frustration in you life.

I kid I kid..
It's puzzling that it seems to only be affecting you. I'm only on my phone today, but will have real laptop/connectivity tonight/tomorrow.. Will see if I can figure out something then.

There is apparently a world in which the words scan and gauge are "too common" and contain fewer than three letters. I wonder what conversations are like there?

Thank you for checking into it, Manitou - much appreciated.

I just had to try and of course got the same answer as you all did. When I input "bleeplesnorp" it did the search and of course came up with nothing. I wonder after posting this, I can now search for that word...

*edit* Why yes it did. So now it's a question as to why the software treats some words as "common" instead of just searching for it.

fixed:
not sure what that was all about, but deleted and recreated the search index. Seems to be working as expected now.
