Chinook RV

Anyone ever replace what's on the wall behind the stovetop with something like tile or wallpaper or something? I'm looking to get some kind of tin panels to put up there but didn't know how to work around the fabric wall that's there.

I'm slightly surprised that you have fabric on the walls around the stove area. My '99 Concourse has velvety fabric (with foam backing) on the walls in the living/dining area, but a paper/vinyl type product on the walls around the kitchen sink/stove area. It looks to be one of those wallboard products with the paper bonded on from the get-go (vs. an applied wallpaper).

From what I can tell on mine, the velvety walls are a thin board (plywood?) with a foam backed fabric applied with adhesive. The "wallpapered" walls look like a board that came pre-finished (with the patterned paper).

The Premiers I looked at had the "wallpapered" walls vs. having velvety walls behind the couch and chairs area. But I don't think I saw any with velvety kitchen walls.

In other RV's, I've seen people use a variety of coverings. A couple of lightweight ones I've noticed have been the Smart Tiles (look like ceramic tile but are adhesive plastic sheets), and the metal Aspect adhesive tiles. I've seen real tile/glass/etc. but only in bigger/heavier Class A's and the like. I could see the tin-like sheets also working well if they appeal to you (I always just see lots of nooks and crannies to have to clean). If I were going to do mine I'd probably got with the Smart Tiles or the Aspect tiles (at least from what I have seen so far).

Another idea might be to install sheets of plastic (maybe a bold color you like) or thin plywood with something you like laminated to it (poster, etc.). I've also seen linoleum tiles used, although they didn't grab me.

If you do have the velvety walls in the kitchen area, and if they are the same foam backed fabric as in the living room on my rig, then I can't see doing anything but a full sheet (that you would tack up around the edges) without removing it back to wood. But a full sheet could possibly go right up over the velvet.

Well my friend, I stand corrected. You are correct that I don't have the felt wall but what you described. So that should make it a lot easier to put something up on it. But it also brings up the water stained felt wall at the driver-side picture window from a leak I corrected. I haven't tried to see if some kind of fabric stain remover would work on it yet, but I imagine it can't get worse that it is. Fortunately it's mostly hidden by the right side of the curtain overlap but I want to address it at some point. Otherwise I don't know how to fix that if it's glued down.

I post here and on the Yahoo forum for various opinions. I prefer the layout of this place and want to keep it going and not die out. So you'll see more of my ramblings here about what I'm up to.

Some guy that lives in a VW Rialta used metal ceiling tiles. Then he used small containers with magnetic bottoms as a "spice rack". The lids has a clear glass section too.. Seemed pretty perfect.

I'm glad to hear that. I vastly prefer this format for many reasons (although I appreciate the history and effort that folks have put into the Yahoo! group - it's Yahoo! forum/format that doesn't work for me). I posted a lot here at first, but people just didn't seem too interested, so I backed off. But I'd like nothing more than to see this format/forum flourish.

That's where I got the idea to do it. I liked what he did and now hope to incorporate it into mine. Including the spices! If we're thinking of the same video, he really did a fantastic job on his interior.

Yeah, it's a pain opening up all the closed responses in a thread and then I have to hit the back button twice to get back to the main page. But they've got some awesome information, including the files. This site seems more homey for me. Post away!

We had our carpet steam cleaner serviceman from STEAM MASTER clean our coach from top to bottom. Carpets, ceiling and wall stains, upholstery on the front seats and couches, it is spotless now. You might check that out for the wall stains from previous roof leaks.

That's a good idea. Although my upholstery looks great, years of previous owners using it does want me to have it cleaned. Certainly can't hurt to get a quote for everything.

Has anyone painted their walls? I have the blue interior, which is great, but there’s an odd pattern to the wall paper (assuming it’s wallpaper) that I’d like to change. I’d like to apply a good quality house paint, but I don’t know the exact material of the wall covering, so I’m unsure about the required preparation. I’d hate to have a paint flaking situation down the road…
