Door Chime Disabled?

Is there a way to disable the open-door chime on my 2000 Ford 350 Concourse? It goes off when the driver door is opened with the engine running. It's an annoyance when I'm getting in and out to assess the site or set the leveling blocks. It's so loud I'm sure it carries to the neighboring sites too.

It does not chime when the door is opened with the engine off and the key in ignition, which would useful. It does chime if the headlights are left on, which I would not want to lose.

Has anyone done this or checked into it? Thanks,

I can't answer your question, but I'm glad you asked. I hate things like that (noise, lights) that I can't control. I can't even immediately think how mine works vis-a-vis the chime (and I do get out and do the kangaroo back and forth when I'm hitching up a trailer and/or setting blocks). So, I hope someone posts!

Along similar lines, my Concourse had this super annoying feature where whenever the door was open (or even if you just so much as touched the door handle), the dome light(s) would be on. No way to shut them off. Sooooo aggravating. Makes you really popular at a dark-sky event....

My chime was also irritating. Find the chime module (mine was under the dash to the right of the steering column) and simply put a piece of tape over the ports for the chime. It may be necessary to remove the knee kick panel to access the module. While this doesn't disable the chime, but it will quiet it down to an acceptable level.

As for the dome lights, I installed a switch on the light plate to interrupt the circuit from the 2 switches (see photos). The switch can either be a push on-push off or a toggle type. Any auto parts store will have one. The cover plate is held in place on the ends. Use care in removing this plate as there are only small protrusions that hold it in place. Drill holes in the base plate and the cover at the same time (for alignment) to accommodate the switch, then drill a larger hole in the cover plate to accommodate the switch nut diameter.
Disconnect the three black wires going to the existing switches, and connect the two wires from the existing switches to one of the new switch connections. Connect the other black wire to the other connection of the new switch. Mount the switch and close up the panels. Now if you want the dome light on, flip the switch and it will operate normally.

Here is a thread from one of the Ford forums that explains the easy solution and includes pictures. I'm pretty sure your 2000 is pretty much the same.
