1989 Chinook Concourse interior rehab

Post by Ourhomeonthemove »

Hello Everyone, I have Recently become the new owner of a 1989 Chinook Concourse. I have always wanted one of these and got a great deal and plan on doing lots and lots and lots of resto and some custom rehab to this beauty. From the engine to the subfloor, I have been inspecting and making a massive master plan to get things done and I figured I would start documenting and seeing if anyone has done anything similar so I can get some insight before I start. I will also be putting a good amount of what I do on YouTube and here. Anyways back to what I bought and plan on doing soooo to me the biggest thing is structural integrity. The plywood on the floor and the subfloor look less than appealing due to water damage and especially under the windows. I measured a full inch of bowing with a straight edge from the center to under the windows. The brackets that attach to the frame are also missing and were never drilled for over half of the bolts so It probably came like this from factory. I'm wondering if anyone else has repaired or done anything like this as I will most likely be starting to replace a board at a time till I don't see any rot and re glassing it in for structural support. I basically know what I want to do and what I'm doing just was wondering if anyone else has tackled such a project. Later I will attach some pictures.

So I got some work done to it this week. I took out the water tank, water heater, furnace, and the kitchen sink and cabinets. I'm lucky that I get to work on it tomorrow and I plan on taking out the microwave, refrigerator, and the back cabinet storage area. This should give me the information I need to know if I will have to remove the bathroom or not. I ordered some body mounts to fix the cab not lining up with the camper floor. I plan also to bolt the cab to the camper and honestly do not know why it didn't come standard like that. I mean were seatbelts even mandatory in 89 haha and like a lot for the suspension and motor that I might put into the other categories. I also got all the hardware to mount the frame to the back camper. This thing is literally 30 bolts short so that should improve the ride. Honestly I can't believe the owners before me didn't notice.

If I remember correctly, the coach is maybe 1/2 inch higher than the cab on my 2000 Concourse. I think it was not any issue that they want to bother with over the years. I kind of feel it is a good delineate line between the cab and the coach, but I think if they are at the same level, it would be more consistent.

I have been documenting it on my youtube and will have much more to share on there. Feel free to watch as I will be posting every 2 weeks to see the chaos and progress. The bathroom just came out and the rot underneath there is astounding. haha
