What would you do…diamond in the rough?

Welll… she is a 1990 M1903 with 48370 low miles on her. She is rough looking on the outside…and a bit on the inside. Needs some TLC and minor? repair.
Shows signs of a leak around the back door, also caulked around the windshield. Some soft areas around the lower walls by the rear door. Mechanical shape is unknown…at this time. My wife and I spotted this at a local car lot.
We will call for more information on Tuesday when they reopen. ;)
She NEEDS a good bath!!! :geek: and love!
NOW for the positive! ALL interior roof and walls appear to be solid and sound, including all cabinets. All wood is in good shape, upholstery is in excellent shape. Good tires. A lot of nice camping extras and a few upgrades to her.
Now about us… I am retired HVAC tech. with some time on my hands, and pretty handy. As long as I can get this unit for a good price ( what would you guys think $) and can fix the cosmetic water damage around the door ( I think the light over the door leaked?) and HOPEFULLY the mechanical aspect checks out ok… IT IS A GO FOR FULL THROTTLE UP!
I just hope it does not end up like the Challenger!
Don’t get me wrong, I am not looking at it with rose colored glasses… we realize that this will be a bit of work to get her back to her shiny glory. ANY advice or thoughts appreciated.
Thankyou folks for responding!

whoof.. that is a bit of work. From what you've said, it sounds salvageable though. Does it run/drive? What is the asking price? I've mentioned here before about a dream I have of putting a modern ford transit van (better mpg, maybe even awd) cutaway under a chinook. It would be a ton more work then just fixing what's already there though.

I would take that on in a heartbeat. I've done 3 chinooks, two of which we're the vintage shown, with the 460 motor.

My current Chinook has the 6.9 IDI diesel engine and sat for a long time, leaked and rotted out the floor in the back.

I just cut out all the rot, and will template pieces and fiberglass them back in. I'm looking forward to finishing mine this winter.
