1390 miles to do what in 22 degree with water temp at 33 degrees?

...to fish for steelhead trout in a Lake Erie tributary in western NY.....and way worth it:) Daytime temps below freezin, nightime down to teens, spent three nights in chinook, two besides streams, one at rest area......gotta say, the Chinook makes life chasing tight lines very comfortable...

With that smile, I am sure you are having a great time!
Do you do anything to keep the waste tanks from freezing? I am thinking about going north to see some snow, but I have never do any trip where freezing is a concern.

Hey 68 Camero--I just got done showing your pics to my wife...she is SO jealous! She's fly fished from some pretty nice places that we have been to in our Rig (2004) over the past several years (The Rock Creek in Montana, various streams in the Catskills, the Bonaventure in the Gaspe, and Battenkill near Manchester VT closer to home (we are in Boston area)...but never in winter. Looks like we should give it a try!

Dang, I am the one jealous, you have fished some great spots. Until I retire I am restricted to easy coast but as you know we have nice fishing from ME to FL. Once I retire, I am heading west:)
Our rigs are perfect for chasing tight lines!

Chin, I winterize my rig once we are about to get sustained temps overnight below freezing, including pink anti-freeze in black/gray tank. since I use my rig lots in freezin temps I simply take 2-3 extra gallons of pink with me and use it to fill toilet before use then flush toilet. For water I have plastic tea dispenser with valve on lower side I can open to wash hands in bathroom or kitchen sink. I stock my frig with bottled water and use that for drinking and cooking.
After I get back and empty tanks I put more pink in them and start process all over again. So far no problems. I do have snow chains, rescue tracks and shovel with me at all times, plus I bring a Mr. Heater Buddy with 1 lb propane tanks as backup.
You're missing half the fun if you are not using rig ib freezin temps:)
