Replace refrigerator 2000 Concourse

Post by btexpress »

I know there have been posts on removing the refrigerator but has anyone successfully replaced one in one piece without destroying anything? I have a functioning (scared off by recall) 3 way RM3663 and want to replace with a DM2662RB 2 way. Looks to me even taking it out diagonally it would catch the shower door area.

Since I've been reading old threads and posts a lot, I recall the consensus that it would be difficult to remove and then install one unless the side window is removed.

I believe one member actually sawed the fridge in half to remove his out the rear entry since he wasn't going to use the old fridge. I'm not sure about the size of your new one that you will be replacing with. If it's smaller, it may be doable in one piece.

Another removed the club chairs in order to use the passenger door if I recall correctly. I don't recall if that was done in one piece.

I'm sure someone will post who's actually done it though. Like I said, this is from what I gleaned from many posts.

That would be my next question. Has anyone taken one out the front passenger door successfully. I have a booth and it looks like the section closest to the front would have to come out as well as the passenger seat. That being said I do wonder if it will clear the shower side coming out of the opening. The replacement is about the same size(recommended by Dometic)

Can you disable the propane on the three way so that it only runs on AC or if you have to, DC?

If I remember correctly, it maybe possible to move the refer out by the passenger door, you will have to figure out how to do it in reverse if you want a new one to go in there in one piece.

Edit:
Here is the thread:

It only ran on ac or dc when I got it a year ago. That is an option but it likes to eat coach batteries in dc mode. Put a Dinosaur board in it and it works fine on propane. Then the 07 recall info hit me. Back to my first concern, will the unit come out of where it sits in one piece?

The batteries just not enough capacity to heat it if you only have access to DC.

Did you have a chance to look at the thread linked above? It was done before.

I believe the concern is when it is propane mode.
Since I don’t use my fridge in propane mode, I don’t worry about it but I can understand people who do.
When I’m plugged in, it’s on AC mode, and I never use the DC mode.
However, I have been pondering doing the recall upgrade just in case I start wanting cold drinks and such, but not enough to replace the fridge.

I don't think you need to freak out over the recall. Just call Dometic (or current successor) with the serial number and they should have records of whether it was needed and done or not. And if not done, they should pay to have it done, any RV shop should know how to do it or check it. Chances are that it was done, because there was wide publicity about it when it came out.

I certainly wouldn't buy a new refrigerator over that issue, especially when there is a fix from the factory.

The fix isn't really a fix it's a three sided shield and a heat sensitive fuse fuse on the thermocouple lead which i"m having installed next week. The more I thought about it the more it bothers me. The fact remains there could still could be an unpleasant outcome if the burner fails while the refrigerator is operating on gas. Back to my original post - Has anyone successfully removed the refrigerator without collateral damage and not removing passenger side window.

I hear you. The "fix" (i.e. it can still catch on fire but now there is a little shield!)is one reason I went to a compressor refrigerator (which came in through the rear door). (There were other reasons too though.)

I didn't try to remove my original refrigerator without cutting it in half because I couldn't see going to any lengths (removing window, etc.) for something I was getting rid of. In halves of course it slipped out the rear door easily (cutting it in half took about 20 minutes).

Perhaps Scott is the one who took it out through the front? That said, he has a pre-1997 dash, and may have had the smaller Premier refrigerator, plus the Premier has no kitchen ell.
