Chinook RV

Just finished cleaning out water heater and using a boroscope it looks really clean, not sure how much it was used.

My question, to turn the water heater on in a 2001 Councourse, do you simply:

1. turn on propane;
2. Turn on Water heater switch on galley by knee level
Does it need power source like shore power, battery and generator ot just propane is fine? Is there a pilot light I need to light?

Is that it, how long to waiter heats?

Also, is this the MORryde system some of these Chinooks have? This is pic of what I think it is, it is located at rear of leaf springs.

The water heater is an electronic ignition type, so you need coach 12V power for the propane to fire up. This is why you need to flip the switch on the galley. It heats up really fast, maybe 5 or 10 minutes?

The MorRyde is a MO25-002 for 74,000 lb vehicle. It is the original spring that most of the Chinook Concourses come with.

That is the MORryde "rubber spring" and it is ripped apart and needs replacement.

Thanks, I just received my Power Stop brakes today and was going to have installed Monday but I guess I'll wait to get MorRyde replacements to have done at same time.

Woo-hoo, I have hot water, I mean really hot:) It was as easy as turning on propane, turn on heat switch and be patient for few minutes. Heard clicking/thunk kinda sound a few times then propane came on. Went in for dinner and came out to hot water - way cool....

On another note, happy to see I have MorRyde, bummer they need replacing. MorRyde website doesn't have prices that I saw. Anyone know cost to replace both sides, hopefully just bumpers.

I guess you are all set with the water heater. One note is that you need to check on the sacrificial electrode to make sure it is in good shape.

For the Mor Ryde, I replaced the passenger side last year myself. Not that difficult if you have the tools like jack and jack stand. I had to use a Porta Power press to get mine done.

My electrode was in great shape as was inside of water heater, I don't think previous owners used it much.

As my forum name 68camaro may imply, I have done rebuilding/refurbishing new and old cars in past, but to be honest, I really don't have desire or time to turn wrenches anymore. My 68 camaro RS is fully refurbed but any problems comes up I have someone address it.

My biggest concern with Chinook is getting opportunity to get out in it. Tomorrow I will put on new blackwater hose carrier but outside of fairly easy stuff that's pretty much limit. I got parts to fix bath fan and antenna so that may get done tommorrow and tonight I am going to try to pick the hidden safe as owners didn't have key, as long as I don't have to get greasy or smack knuckles I am OK with it

68 Camaro RS? Too cool! I used to drool over that grille back in the day (still like it!).

Sorry for going on a tangent, but you those tubular lock is a pain to pick, particular if you are not experienced with it. You may want to contact the manufacturer with the serial number and see if they can provide you with a key code. I think there is a little plate on the left side with the serial number....
