I think 68camaro was really lucky when he was able to get it pull off on his second try using the kit. For mere morals like you and me, we usually just have to get a locksmith, or hope that the manufacturer have a way to give us the key specification from the code on the original key.

As far as I know all the Chinooks I seem so far that came with the safe use the Baton safe. So if Kelvin can get a replacement key from Baton, we all should able to get one if we have the code on the original key. However, I don't know if Baton can look up the key code if you do not have the original key, and only have the serial number on the safe. Some manufacturer do keep a database of the serial # -> key code, but some does not. I do not know how Baton do their business, so it will be a learning experience for all of us if Kelvin share the info.

Where is the "hidden safe" typically located?

On the floor in a cabinet under the stove.

Greetings, just a quick update to my "obtaining a key to my safe" challenge. I purchased 3 Baton keys using the code on the original that came with my Chinook Baja. It works as advertised. The process took 2 calls because someone dropped the ball on their end. It's nice to have a safe for valuables etc.
Cheers!
Kevin

I'm a bit paranoid, so i would delete the key code that you have on the older post.

Good idea Chin. I tried to delete the Key Code however I cannot figure out how to edit old posts. Anyone know how to do this? Admin?
Many thanks!

You need to login as Kevin to edit that, or you can ask Manitou to edit it by PM him.

I realize this is an older thread but I just got my Chinook and just found this Group. My Chinook had a safe but there was no key. I took the Chinook to a locksmith. He was able to open the safe and make me two keys in 15 minutes for about $18 total. Just thought I would share this easy option.
