Looking for advice:
I was already to purchase the Progressive Dynamics 4600 upgrade converter when a friend says he will give me a new PD9200 he did not use. The 9200 is also a 45 amp model. Looking at the project, buying the 4600 upgrade looks like a plug and play simple install. Using the PD9200 will require some cover modifications and mounting modification. I have read both spec sheets and I am not seeing any differences. Am I missing something? Please advise
I believe PD9200 and PD4645 are probably the same electronics, but packaged in different housings, as you surmise. The PD9200 is set up for new installations, and the 4645 is set up to fit in the brown box Magnatek housing as an upgrade. Hence the specs are the same for both units.
In addition to being packaged specifically to replace the Magnatek converter, the PD4645 kit comes with a new replacement DC distribution card with the built-in charge wizard display. The PD9200 only has the converter, not the DC distribution or AC circuit box contained in the upper portion of the brown box. The PD9200 box looks like it is higher than the PD4645, so it might be difficult to find a place for it if you continue to use the upper half equipment in the brown box.
Thanks for input. I will measure twice before making decision. Also, using the 9200, I most likely need a new board depending on the Magnetek in my 2000 Premier
There maybe enough room behind the brown box for the PD9200. You can use the existing AC panel and the DC panel with the PD9200 if you have the space under or behind it. Check to make sure the PD9200 have sufficient ventilation, however.

I just got a Progressive Dynamics upgrade to replace the MagneTek 7345. Quick question. Instructions state the first thing to do is disconnect all power sources including the generator. (Obviously the generator won't be running) My question: Is flipping the circuit breaker on the generator sufficient or would it be necessary to disconnect the wires from the generator? What have the others here who have done this swap? May be a silly question but I really don't want to fry something.

It is the potential for electric shock if someone decided to crank the genset while you are working on the install. I usually just take out the fuse that provide the 12 V power to the generator (check under the genset cover), and make sure it won't start when someone press on the START button. Check the manual for sure, however. I would also make sure the shore power is unplugged, the 30A circuit breaker is flipped. You will be taking the AC panel off and work inside the panel, so make sure everything is OFF. I also would check everything with a voltmeter just in case before touching anything.
