I really like that new black look! Those parts all look like quality, too. Could you list the parts and where you got them, in case I decide to do a few upgrades sometime?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the feedback—I’m glad you like the new blacked-out look! As I mentioned in my earlier post, several of the components required fairly extensive modifications to fit the updated layout and function the way I envisioned. Since I also build DIY portable power stations, I already had many of the electrical parts on hand, which made the process a bit easier.

You can definitely shop around for better pricing, but these are the exact items I used for the upgrade. I hope the list helps if you decide to take on something similar.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks for all the info. I was looking at the faucet this morning and Amazon showed options, and one had just a quick-connect, instead of hose and shower handle. Since that stupid thing is often in my way, and I pretty much never used it in 12 years (maybe 3 times at the beach to wash feet), so having just a quick connect for it might be perfect for me.

Looks good. I really like the black. I hate the original cord storage as well.

Hi Blewett,

Thanks—I appreciate that. I’ve never been a fan of the original cord storage either. It always felt awkward to use and didn’t inspire much confidence, especially when trying to stow everything away quickly.

The black finish was partly for aesthetics, but also to modernize the area and make future upgrades blend in better. The goal with this project was to improve both usability and flexibility—especially making it easier to connect and disconnect shore power without fighting the cord or worrying about strain on the plumbing or wiring behind the panel.

Once I get a little more time on it, I’ll share additional updates as everything comes together.

Hi All,

Just another progress update on my ongoing “Service Center” project. Over the last couple of days, I focused on finishing up the cabinet door itself. I stripped the remaining old paint, then repainted the door using a paint-and-primer combination, followed by a couple of coats of clear coat for added protection. It’s not a show-quality finish, but it cleaned up nicely and is more than acceptable for my needs (lol).

I was also able to install the new hinges that Bob recommended, and they worked out perfectly. The fit and range of motion are much better than the originals. To finish things off, I picked up some exterior self-adhesive weather stripping from a big-box store to replace the seals I had to remove prior to painting. It’s a temporary solution for now, but it should hold up well until I decide on a more permanent option.

While I had everything apart, I went ahead and replaced the 1-1/4" RV fresh water fill hose. The gravity fill hatch accepts both 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" hose sizes, so my main concern is ensuring proper fit at the fresh water tank connection. I’ll address that once I get to that stage. Some may wonder why I chose to replace both hoses, including the vent line. After a closer inspection—especially of the vent hose—I noticed the interior of the hose wasn’t in the best condition. At the time, I couldn’t see inside the main fill hose to confirm its condition, so I decided it made sense to replace both hoses while everything was already accessible.

Before wrapping up the exterior portion of the Service Center, there’s one more small addition I’d like to make: adding a dedicated holder for the outdoor shower head to improve storage and usability.

Next, I’ll be shifting my focus to the interior work under the sink. I’ll continue to post updates as the project moves along.
