Most flooring materials are thick enough to allow for routing out the back side of them to clearance over the top of the bolts. If additional clearance is needed grinding a bit of the heads of the bolts shouldn't be an issue.

I haven't done the flooring yet, but here are a few ways I'm considering (which have all been used by at least one other Chinooker I think):

1) If using thick flooring, as mentioned, cut out the back with a Forstner bit (or other way) and let them stick up into the recesses.

2) Put down a sub-floor that basically does the same thing for thinner flooring.

3) Recess the bolt heads into the floor, which is fairly thick and made up of two layers of plywood (note: some models may not be plywood, but I can see yours is - always check though). I'd also include some good thick fender washers in the recessed area. Added thickened epoxy is an option. BTW, if you put your year and model in the Signature line it's helpful.

4) Replace the bolts with elevator bolts (have very wide thin flat head).

I would/will likely choose #3 or #4 because I would put down sheet linoleum or vinyl and don't want the extra thickness (height) and weight of a sub-floor.

I drilled holes the size of the bolt heads in the flooring panels. A little extra measuring and cutting, but it came out ok.

I used the same material on my 1990 Chinook. It only took two boxes, and is perfect for RV applications, since it's 100% PVC, doesn't expand and contract, move, or require special skills. Love it.

How many square feet did you end up using for your installation?

How many square feet did you end up using for your installation?

2 boxes at 20 square feet per box, for a total of just under 40 square feet. I did not do the rear entry step, and at the front I stopped at the head of the dinette and couch. In hindsight, I would do both of those sections and spring for a third box.

Your flooring looks wonderful!

We just started the removal of the furniture to do our flooring replacement in our Destiny. My question is, how far did you take the flooring towards the cab? i.e. Did you install it just to the end of the dinette, or did you lay it right through to where the Chinook floor ends and the Chevy floor starts?

We are wondering because a previous owner laid new carpeting at some point and stopped just after the dinette and added a transition strip between the original carpet and the new carpet. We'd like to install vinyl planks all the way to the entrance to the cab. Is there something we need to take into consideration before we install the full length?
