Skillet: Nice to hear the appreciation for the door stick Isn't it crazy that you just now found out how slickly the steps fold up?

I originally had a photo of my Chinook in the desert for my avatar, but then after I mentioned the humble door stick in a thread, I think it was kdarling that suggested (goaded?) me into making it my avatar. Little did he realize it was a special maritime device
I got the two rods removed and straighten out. There is a T55 bolt on each ends, which I never use before, and I have to buy one specifically for this. I put a 3/8-18 rod nut on it to protect the threads, and hammered it. I also fixed the step, which was also bent. It is working really well right now.
However, I think I would like to remove them again and get it brushed to get rid of the rust. Do I just spray paint it with enamel, or I need to prime the metal for the paint to work well? Or it is actually needs to be powder-coated?
