Chinook RV

I got the electrical permit pulled today, and I will have it done next week by a electrician. The electric company is subsidizing $500 of it, so it is reasonable for me to hire someone to do this. Without the rebate, I think I can get it done myself in a day (yeah, I am slow) and maybe $200 in parts. Those copper wires is pretty expensive! It will have a 14-50 outlet on it (that is 240V), and I have a adapter that let me plug in the TT-30 from the rig (120V, using only "half" of the outlet).

I pulled the permit, and it just passed final inspection this morning. The GFCI breaker in the main panel costed about $100 alone.

I just put the 14-50R and did not do the RV power outlet like this:

It is mostly because of the extra cost, and there is not much space around the panel, and I already have a 14-50 to TT-30 adapter for the Chinook. The hassle is that I need to flip up the main panel and use the breaker there when I connect and disconnect the rig every time.

Simple and clean looking. The big box is just too big and too much stuff, at least for my purpose and obviously for yours too, plus the expense.

PS forgot to ask, what is that horizontal metal piece on the wall for, below right? Was that part of the work?

Oh, that is a hand-made face plate that I put over the cable access panel. The original is missing, and I have a hard time finding one since the house is old (not the New England old, but Californian old). It is one of the gateways for the rats to get into my attic, so I have to seal it up.

Do you actually need the surge protector? If so is it a particular kind or wattage or...?
I'm doing mine this Sat. via an electrician. I suppose he can tell me what's what if I don't hear from you.

For code, an outdoor breaker with GFCI is needed. I don't think it is much more expensive than the regular breaker. Mine is a 240 V 50 A with 14-50 receptacle, since we use it for charging our car, and I can get $400 back from the electric company with the EV rebate. I just need to get a adapter when I plug the Chinook there.

I am going to redo this with a different panel, https://www.connecticut-electric.com/rv ... er-outlets, probably the 50A RV outlet. I do not like how the plastic cover not quite cover the plug when it is used.
