Re: Oak embossed moulding
Back on topic: Oak Moulding... took the Chinook to a couple of high end RV service centers in Elkhart, IN today for estimates on a variety of upgrades and systems checks. I'm only 20 minutes from the "RV Capital of the World" and Elkhart offers everything associated with any RV. Anyway, both service managers said the Oak Moulding in the Chinook, while no longer made, can be easily be reproduced using a CNC machine in fabricating the oak trim. I'm looking into this further...

I didn't find the exact one, but maybe it looks more like "sausage and bead" rather than egg and dart?

That is exactly like the trim I have. Where did you acquire it?Blue~Go wrote:I didn't find the exact one, but maybe it looks more like "sausage and bead" rather than egg and dart?

I'm sorry, but I should have been more clear. That is a detail shot of existing Chinook trim that is the same as in my 1999. I just wanted to show you what I was "assuming" you were also looking for. I couldn't resist the hunt (to try to find trim for you) and found things that looked more like it labeled "sausage and bead" rather than the "egg and dart" you mentioned. So I figured I'd mention that in case it helped you to find some.
Sorry if it looked like I had the exact one sussed.

No problem... I just got overly excited (wishful thinking) that maybe you found a source for the "sausage & bead" trim.Blue~Go wrote:I'm sorry, but I should have been more clear. Hoosier:
Are you still looking for the molding? I removed some from my rig today (and more to come) and wondered if it might help you out? I'm not sure how I would get it to you (due to length) (or for that matter how long a piece you need), but...?
It's the typical medium-dark oak that I see on other Concourses of the era (mine is a 1999).

Re: Oak embossed moulding
Blue-Go,
I'll take as much as you can spare. A 3 foot long hard cardboard shipping tube with end cap, maybe 2-3" in diameter, would work. Fit as many pieces of moulding in it you can. Zip is 46614 for UPS quote. Let me know your price and shipping cost. If you have PayPal, all the better.
THANKS!
ps: if you want to get rid of any "ship rail", I'll take that too...

Re: Oak embossed moulding
Hi Hoosier,
Good idea on the tube. I guess I was thinking of longer lengths. I take it you don't need any single length longer than 3'? (If you do, maybe a longer tube.)
I'm not sure on the ship rail yet. Presuming we're both talking about the same thing, the only place I have that is on the oak "spice cabinet" by the sink, and I'm not sure yet if that stays or goes. Speaking of which, hmmm, I wonder if that entire cabinet would work over your stove? I suppose the odds of it being the right dimensions are slim, but you probably have a matching one to look at in your rig, right?
I should also end up with some doors. At some point I'll put something in the classifieds, but I'd be happy for you to have anything you could use first.
I'm still waffling over the stove/fridge placement now! I want to have my cake and eat it too, and have the stove where the stove is, the fridge where the fridge goes, AND a continuous counter top. Don't ask for much, do I?
This could be accomplished if I gave up the oven, and went with a separate fridge/freezer (both smaller). Somewhat less efficient and more expensive, but I'm mulling (and I would get a much nicer freezer out of it).
I've been wanting to mention the molding ever since you first said you were looking for some, but I wasn't sure if I would actually take mine out yet (was working up nerve), and I didn't want to offer and then have to rescind.

3' pieces should be the longest I'll need... as many as you can spare. I'm only replacing the trim on the new microwave cabinet and over the new cooktop shelf thingy, as well as the closet/rear entry area (which I needed to repair also
Let me know your decision on any doors as well. And thanks for the first right of refusal offer.
Yep... the ship rail that's on the spice rack/cabinet. I thought about moving that cabinet to over the cooktop, but it's just not the right fit. Easier to do new construction.
Your "waffling" is exactly where I was early on with this project. And like you, I also WANT EVERYTHING! We don't have the oven, so I looked into the separate freezer and fridge concept, but the cost was just too high. The price for a stand-alone freezer is outrageous! The gen-set enclosure is the real culprit. But for our travel needs, it's gotta stay. We like the option of parking off road and making lunch or resting, running the gen for the microwave, etc.

Re: Oak embossed moulding
Hoosier,
As it turns out, my cabinetmaker buddy has had a family medical emergency, so we're taking a hiatus from the remodeling job until that's taken care of. So for now, I only have one section of the molding. However, it's ~50" long so I think it's enough for your current job? It's the piece that ran along over the top of the microwave and refrigerator together.
If you'd like me to just send you this one piece now/soon (not sure when any others will be available due to above situation) I'd be happy to.
If you'd like, just PM me your address, and I will get a tube and ship it, most likely via UPS. It may be a week or two, as I'm in transit. When I do send it, I'll get a tracking number. What I'd propose for a price is just the actual tube/shipping cost, plus maybe a little bit for my trouble. If you are willing to just say go ahead, then instead of getting an estimate and getting back to you and then shipping it, I'll just send it out when I get to UPS or etc.
