Damaged Bumper
The previous owner of my Chinook had backed into something, weakening the right portion of the bumper and breaking some on the weld. After using it the step up to the ladder, it bent even further. I contact a person who was with the original Chinook factory and he quoted (get ready) $580 for a new piece. My solution was to have a piece of sheet metal (1/8") bent. Re-welded side bar. I drilled and filed some square carriage bolt holes, then painted and put a piece of non-skid tape on top. The total cost was under $20 and it's more sturdy than before.

Re: Damaged Bumper
Nice fix!
Speaking of that style of bumper(s) (which I also have), I've often thought of making some sort of little "tray" to mount on top of the bumperette on the other (driver's) side. Since I moved my spare up front, that makes a nice little set-down area. Emphasis on the "little" since the top of the bumperette is like 2" across. I have the holes left from removing (and, of course, saving) the spare mount so I really should whip up some sort of "mock up" to test it out.

Re: Damaged Bumper
I added a drop down table that we use for the grill. It makes it real easy when there no tables around.
Re: Damaged Bumper
Oh my, that's fantastic! I bet more than a few Chinookers will be copying that one (myself included)
(The later Chinooks DID have that compartment door opening down instead of up like ours; but I like your mod even better because the compartment doors are just basically foam with a thin skin, and I wouldn't want to use that for much of a table. Your way you can use a good sturdy board vs. part of the exterior of the coach (that isn't meant to bear weight) (the compartment door).
Sweet!!
