I just wanted to say thank you for posting, this is such a cool project! I thought I would have to get my 1999 Concourse professionally painted to solve the same issues but now I know this is a possibility. I would love to see an update :)

Hello, new to the group. Your project looks great! I’m wondering if my 1995 Concourse’s stripes and logos are painted on in lieu of decal sets. Is there a sure way to find out?

All of the Concourses from the that era have painted stripes with decals for the lettering. I have repainted most of my stripes several times and have also painted the large lettering in some cases, using stencils I made from the original lettering.

Thanks, Clay. I wondered as I can feel the ‘lip’ of the stripes which led me to believe they were decals. Need to have the unit redone and decals just add cost. According to local quotes.
Thanks again. Steve

This is one I used a decal for the lettering after. The slant was right, but the font is a little off:

Hi Pookers,

Thank you so much for the compliment—I really appreciate it. I was actually in the same situation as you. The quotes I received from boat restoration shops and auto body shops were far beyond my budget. That’s what ultimately sent me down the rabbit hole to figure out if there was another way to get it done.

It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a big improvement over what it was before, and I’m happy with the progress so far.

Living in New York, as you know, the temperatures fluctuate quite a bit. Because of that, I’ve decided I may revisit some of the remaining strips and decals during the warmer months when conditions are more favorable. I had several other winter projects planned as well, but a few of those are now on hold.

My motto is “Slow and stop.😊 I’ll be sure to post another update when I decide to move forward.

Regards,
Michael

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the group 😊 thank you very much for the compliment—I truly appreciate it. It sounds like Clay may have more specific knowledge regarding whether the Concourse model for that year used paint or decals.

Whichever direction you decide to go—paint or decals—I wish you the best. From my experience, I can say that removing the old stripes and lettering involves quite a bit of wet sanding and prep work. It’s definitely labor-intensive, but the end result makes it worthwhile.

Best of luck on your journey.

Michael

Great motto! Looking forward to an update whenever you get to it. :)

We are actually in the middle of an interior remodel and you’re inspiring me to post my progress here. It is so helpful to see what others have done and are doing. I’ve been posting on the Chinook facebook groups but this is a much better format for me and I appreciate the detail so many posters go in to, so thanks to you and to everyone else in this community! I have been lurking for a while and this place is such a wealth of information.
