Thanks for the reply,
The 10AWG will just be the ground wire for the inverter case, which I understood was supposed to be 1-2 sizes smaller than the run from the battery.

I was going to do 8 AWG, above the left side pillar, 500w - it could be up to 12 feet with turns, but could be 9 feet ...

Aha, yes, I see. Just a note: it can be up to two sizes smaller, but doesn't have to be smaller. Obviously in your case that works out nicely with the 10AWG though.
