2003 Concourse premier Remodel/Mobile-home project

Post by RV-newb »

-Introductions-

Hello everyone, a couple months back I had posted here regarding a Chinook purchase which I had finalized.which can be found here.

The only other post I've made so far on this forum was regarding a furnace purchase which I have yet to make a decision on And the post for that can be found here

Since then I've been doing some major remodels on the interior of the Chinook and wanted to make this post as a way of documenting what I've done so far on it in the 6+ months of owning it and throwing money into it.

CURRENT PROGRESS:

1. Demoed out the the left side sink cabinet, as well as taken out the right side stove.

2. Removed the Booths and table on the left hand side.

3. Removed the bed/couch entirely, and temporally removed the water tank.

4. Removed the current water heater (plan on replacing that with an on-demand model_

5. Removed all the Blue carpet except for the stuff in the main Cab or literally under the shower install (thanks Chinook...) (Also very painful to do)

6. Removed the ceiling lights and replaced them with puck lights, as well as removed the upper cabinet lights and replaced them with puck lights.

7. Ran new wiring for said puck lights. as well as adding two outlets to the storage cabinet over the cab (Plan to have computer equipment up there)

8. Shimmed the ceiling down (only way to make the puck lights work and it overall much better.

9. Added Wood to the storage over the cab (Better for mounting certain things, also looks better)

10. Added trim to all the cabinets and modifications as well as the shimmed down ceiling.

11. A Removed the fridge and plan to replace it with a 12 volt off-grid type fridge.

11 B Made the cabinet above the old fridge smaller in height to accommodate the taller fridge.

12. A Trimmed out the opening for the fridge as well as the cabinet for where a microwave/toaster oven goes.

12. B redid the box the microwave/toaster oven goes and covered the back/carpeted stuff with wood.

-TO-DO LIST-

]1. Buy Victron equipment for the 1100 Watts worth of solar panels I already own.

2. Buy SOK batteries for said equipment and solar panels, probably in the 400 to 500 Amp hour range.

3. Buy a new furnace with smaller profile.

4. Buy a new water-heater that is on-demand

5. Add subway tile to sink and stove areas.

6. Paint everything.

5.

-MUCH MUCH LATER TO DO-LIST-

1. Replace the radio and air conditioning controls. with some very cool raspberry pi android auto setup.

-The Point of this-

I'm mainly just trying to get a post out the door, hence the rather terse bullet point list for things I have done or need to do, later posts are going to be a bit more detailed and in full honestly I should have been making posts and taking more photos and documentation of this project sooner, I do have more photos of course but they are on other devices and I need to find them and gather them.

The point overall is to make this Chinook livable, as in I can live in it as a home.

Dang, that a ambitious undertaking, good for you.

I can't wait to see final pictures. I like the added wood which gives more open feeling than colored carpet.

are you upgrading batteries/electrical system?

Good luck.

Thanks!

As to answer the question, Yes I plan on upgrading or co-opting the pre-existing electrical, the current thought process going into that is replacing the lead acid batteries with some big high capacity 2x 250 Amp hour lithium batteries from SOK, my only issue is the engine boost and generator start need lead-acid batteries.

so I plan keeping a single lead-acid that is trickle charged for those functions.
