Need advice to put handle on inside passenger for getting in
Need advice to put handle on inside passenger for getting in
My wife is disabled and We need to come up with something of a "assist" handle or strap to help her get up and in on the passenger side. We have a 1998 Concourse Ford. Also trying to make the seat lay back farther for her to rest while travelling. Any way to give her more "leg" room on her side?? Please help. Thank you!! Everyone have a blessed day!!

So, behind the passenger captains chair, is it a booth/dinette setup or club chairs?
The back of my booth is hinged halfway down & folds towards the table. This allows the passenegr chair to lean back some more.

Re: Need advice to put handle on inside passenger for getting in
I had removed the club seats and had put a bed on that side. I removed the bed because we don't use it on that side any more. seat lays all the way back for her now! Thank you Jesus! Now IF I can figure a way to put a handle or strap to help her get in??

...perhaps a strap that is tethered in a track attached to the ceiling area of the cab that has a stop to hold the tension on one end and open on the other so it can be easily removed once she is seated? Perhaps we could all be even more helpful if we knew a bit more of her capabilities.

David, Thank you for your response. She can walk and can step up on the running board and such. She uses the handle in the door to hold on to and usually I have to give her a little push or boost for assistance to get her in for safety. Just can't afford to have her get half way in and then fall backward onto the ground. and ESPECIALLY not hit her head. She has recovered from a brain tumor surgery thank the LORD! She just needs "something" to grab ahold of with her left hand while getting in. thank you for your help!

Flame--let your wife know how much I admire her courage to move forward in the face of adversity...and that you both are looking for ways to get her up into that co-pilot seat to head out together on adventures is testimony to the healing power of the open road!
One other quick suggestion for easing her entry, given your description of her condition: What about looping a section of rope or tie down strap to the steering wheel ( with a "grab handle loop" that she can use to pull on as she gets in and then just slipping it off once she is seated. Simple, no fuss.
Happy Travels!

Re: Need advice to put handle on inside passenger for getting in
Thank you for your kind words David! I will certainly pass it on to her. I have looked for locations for a strap around the seatbelt area. Honestly, I'm never going to let her get in by herself without me behind her. Now that I have the seat pushed back farther she can reach a few things better. She wants to get in and just try that. We just got back from 14 day 5,000 mile round trip about 3 weeks ago now!! I just wished I had removed that bed behind her so her seat could lay back for that trip. But...it is ready for the next journey!
