Replace or repair plumbing

Took my ‘75 out this week for a fly fishing trip on Puget Sound at a Washington State Park. While setting up hooked up to water and started spewing under the rig and of course nothing to the faucets. Knowing I have a broken pipe that need repair. Having never done this before, I’m thinking there can’t be a ton of plumbing hiding down there. Do the pvc repair and wait for the next one to break or redo everything in PEX? Is this a DYI project someone with a little home plumbing experience and a ton of “this old house” viewing can handle? Any and all hints, tips and opinions welcomed.

When you look at location of some of the piping you will likely decide to repair leak. Most use PEX tubing Amazon sells fittings for repair under the name flare-it and as several different types for all different repairs, these do not require special tools. They do sale a tool, but I have found it is not necessary but might be handy if redoing whole system.

Mine is a 2000 so majority of the plumbing is already PEX. PVC actually is easier since it just use solvent. For PEX, you may need specially tool. Depends on what need to be replaced (or reconnected back), you may want to use Sharkbite instead. Just make sure you cut the tubing properly, and prepare the ends so that there is no burr. I think plumbing fix is easier, since you can usually see where the water is coming from. Good luck.

Most importantly, did you still get out fly fishing? This is whole and only reason I bought my rig.

Secondly, when I got my rig home and hooked up to water I found it would not hold water at all, turns out valves were open. Plumping is pretty easy for me so I would replace cracked or broken piece.

My 1998 has PEX but if it had PVC, I'd still repair it with PEX. There are sharkbite fittings that connect PVC to PEX. PEX superseded PVC for me as it is flexible and easier to fit. Pex will carry either hot and cold water. I'd use the more costly sharkbite or equivalent rather than the crimped on with a tool type, since it's tight spaces under there, and you would not need many of the fittings, or the crimper. The cost would still be lots less than having an RV guy diagnose and repair.
