Duel-Therm Thermostat kicks on and off?

Last two times I went to check out things on the Chinook because it has set for so long one strange thing happened. When trying to turn the air conditioner on I have to hit the button on the thermostat maybe 4 or 5 times before it will light up and come on. And when ac finally comes on it would run maybe 5 minutes and completely shut itself off again. I seem to me able to wiggle the thermostat and make it come on again. Then it might run great or it might kick off again. Yesterday I could tell the compressor had kicked off for a few minutes and was just blowing warm air but then kicked back on its own. I admit I only then let it run about 20 minutes but with a thermometer in the vent it was only blowing 58-60 degrees. I will try to let it run longer today to see how it does but...what is this starting to sound like to yall? Bad thermostat? Loose connection? Low Freon? Please advise. Thanks
