Tilt steering wheel

I’ve often wondered why my steering wheel doesn’t tilt all the way up to let me out of there easily.
I looked closer today and see that the oak trim was screwed in as an ad-on to the dash, and it is thick enough to be in the way of the rear of the steering wheel and doesn’t allow it to move up any further.
Is this how it is with this era Chinooks?
One photo is in driving position and the other is tilted as far up as possible. Not that different!

I pretty much never use the tilt, but I just went and tried it. By the way, I removed the wood dash trim (not to my taste - have it in storage). So on mine it can't have anything to do with the wooden trim. I found that I guess I'm driving normally with it tilted pretty much all the way up. So most of the tilt range is "down." I'm not a big person either. I would have expected it to tilt up a bit more really.

The bare dash gap is a little bit off side-to-side, just like yours. The closer side is on the right and I'd say there is about 1/4" gap between the bare black dash and the top of the wheel "stalk." (So not as close as your wood trim.)

So I'd say there is a good chance the wood is not stopping yours, but hard to tell for sure. If you put a piece of paper in there and tilt the wheel up, is the paper trapped or does it slip out?

I guess maybe the alternative is to run the power seat back a bit (thus ruining the D/P seat symmetry )

My driver seat is all the way back already, and it's still not that roomy for me. I have really long legs and a short torso.
But I guess if that is the way the tilt is by default, then I won't do anything about it. Thanks for checking.
I have a furnace wiring and fuse question in another thread. Maybe you can help me with that if you find it.

My wood trim does the same thing, that's funny i have noticed it too. All the buses at my work are all level cause I checked them. I think it may just be the nature of the beast with the added trim. Maybe one could drop the column cover and column and see if it can be finaggled any way to give you more room or at least level it out but think it would be a fairly big project with low return.
