Good idea, I hate my outdoor storage locks and I have I think three keys which I can never tell what is for what. So you have one key (plus spare) that works on all locks?

Ha, that's been my reasoning (or you could say excuse) for not changing those locks. Maybe I'd rather they just get in with a key than wreck the door. OTOH, I can also see changing them to something slightly more secure like you did (doesn't take much to be more secure, sheesh).

Going the other direction, I replaced most of the "utility door" similar key locks with thumb turn screws. Why fiddle with a key when the door is flimsy plastic and that key is ubuiquitous? (was my thought). On my year that's the sewer hose door (which I now use for disposable gloves and the sewer hose is underneath), the electrical cord door, and the gas filler door. Haven't done anything with the water door yet - I'll probably eventually put a marine deck fitting in there but who knows.

I have 14 of the same key. I pretty much have a set stashed everywhere inside and outside the rig... center console,driver's door, key rack, under the flower pot near the door other keyring, drawer in front of sink, passenger door, heck - might as well throw another in the driver's door, you get the idea. Feast or famine. A pair came with each of the seven new locks. All are the same, perhaps because it is a common cylinder lock key. I'm not sure how common it is, but I didn't find anyone at the RV dealer who had one. Now that I think about it, there were a lot of Bic pens around the office....

Pictured from 12:00 are the new cams which were too short for what I needed, a couple of old cams which weren't reused - (with the little insert to adapt the square hole to a little oval to fit on the new lock stud), a few sets of key #0103 and the little plastic bag has the original safe lock and only key the rig came with. The other pic is the utilities door - the only one with a single lock and the only one made of metal.

Understanding that these may only help keep an honest man honest or give a man with a CH751 a moment to contemplate, Blue's switch to thumb screws could be argued. The locked doors on my Chinook are the driver's side storage, utilities door with h2o and electical, rear storage and generator.

Note that I had to fiddle with the lock for the safe a bit because I purposely ordered locks which would not retain the key when unlocked. However, I wanted the safe's lock to retain the key due to the fact that the key is used as the "handle" for the small door of the safe. If you get locks which will not retain the key, you can flip the little clip and adjust the key/cam position so that you can get any of those locks to retain the key if desired. If you get locks which retain the key, you'll be required to use two keys each time you want to open any door with more than one lock. Not too convenient and no options with key retaining locks. You can get a non-key retaining lock to retain the key, but you can't get a key retaining lock to release the key.

Just to clarify, I only made the little plastic "utility hatch" doors into thumb latches. The storage compartments still have the Fort-Knox-like original locks

Does a universal pick fit all sizes? I see from 7.0 - 7.8 mm on ebay. I'd like to get the right one.

Greetings all.
I have a "hidden safe" in my 2000 Baja 4x4. I found the single round key that opens the safe. It has the letters "baton" and the serial # N2055 etched onto the key. Anyone have an idea where I could purchase a couple spares?

The serial number identifies the key code.

Go see if you can call them and ask for replacement keys:

Thanks for the Baton contact information. I gave them the key code. Now they have to check with the company that made the key to see if it is "legal" to replicate the key. Interesting process. I will keep you posted as to my progress. Thanks again for your information.

I just saw this from awhile ago and not sure if info still needed, but my kit off Amazon had three sizes, 7, 7.5, and 7.8. I can’t recall which sized worked but only one will line up with lock.

I bought that kit and tried repeatedly to open the lock without success. I ended up buying a safe from Harbor Freight and am using that for now until I can go to a locksmith to open the tubular one.
Kevin or Chin, do you think they used the same lock on all Chinooks? Maybe I can get a key using that same code.
