Post by Djam6115 »

Anyone coming to Quartzite this year? We are new owners 2002 Destiny and would love to meet and talk to other owners.

Not really Chinook related, but I heard that Quartzite has a RV Expo event every year.

Quartzsite AZ (note the spelling) is a small town that has lots of BLM land around it for free/cheap dispersed RV camping each winter. Many RV's, as in well over a million visitors each winter, come for anywhere from a week to months, because it is warm (50's-70's) and if you're full time in your RV you can hang around all winter, cheap. There is a Sports and RV Show, the largest in the country from what I've read, Jan 22-30 each year.

Just google "Quartzsite RV". The expo's website is www.quartzsitervshow.com

I, too, was wondering if there was a specific time when the Chinook owners gathered. I am a new owner (2004 Premier) and would like to see what other owners have done—specifically, solar.

There are two Chinook RV clubs, one for the east coast, one for the west. Each has at least one rally per year, with multiple smaller, more local events. Check out their web sites for the gatherings.

Late reply, although we're owners of a 2001 Chinook Destiny, and we go to Quartzsite every year in January for an event called Quartzfest. It's a big gathering for ham radio (AI6ZU here). It ends up coinciding with the RV show that happens in Quartzsite as well, typically the third week in January.

You can find out more about Quartzfest here: https://quartzfest.org/

If you happen to be in the Quartzsite area next year during Quartzfest let us know. We'd love to meet other Chinook owners.

Also a Ham here, and our local ham club have some members outfit their rig with ham equipment and do various activities. During the covid, we kind of all hunker down a bit, but we still have monthly meeting and some do daily morning emergency net checks.
