New Member - Maybe in market

Came across a 1996 Chinook with the V10 Ford 350 chassis lifted 4x4 on 35 inch tires. Thinking about a tow vehicle for my rock crawler Jeep that can maybe do double duty in getting me unstuck/back home if Jeep has off road issue.
Questions: 1) at about 100,000 miles and with a Generator/well equipped, what do you think the range on price for such a rig should be?
2) Any problems I should look out for?
3) About how many miles can I reasonably expect to get out of it?

No whining now....

For old RV like the Chinook, the chassis mileage and the genset is not the main price determinant. The condition of the coach is probably more important if there is no engine issue (starts fine, no transmission, brake, or air conditioning issue, etc.) It will be a lot difficult to fix the coach portion if you have plumbing, electrical, propane, etc., since the parts are less available, and more expensive.

But off course, if the rig won't move, then you have a more urgent issue at hand. High mileage is not going to stop me, since there is less wear and tear on the engine compare to someone who drove it to the local camp ground 15 miles away every week, etc.. I can easily do 6,000 miles on mine in a month if I have the time, for example.

Now, I understand your rationale, but the F 350 is not going to crawl around boulders like a fully articulated Jeep. There will be many places that you can use your Jeep but not the Chinook. If I have a lifted 6X6 Chinook, I would get rid of my rock crawler, and just do something less hard core, since it already can bring me to 99% of the places that the Jeep can go. With the Jeep on tow, it actually limits your mobility. So a regular RWD Chinook is actually more useful as a tow vehicle if I want to use the Jeep for the last few miles. YMMV, obviously.

If the coach and every thing is in good repair and if everything is in working order, what would be the value range? I can’t seem to find anything like what’s available for a standard car/truck in valuations.
Get what you’re saying about towing versus the Jeep use. Other potential use is in place of ski cabin or airbnb etc. being able to park slope side and use it as personal lodge/base sounds awesome

I have not been keeping up on the price, but my guess is that a 96 with saleable condition (ready to camp without doing any work) is from $17500 to $25000. It will be several grands more with 6X6, so maybe 20k to 35k? Depends on who did the conversion, how it was done, etc.

The market is still crazy right now so I bet you are closer to $35k or north of it.
