Rear Entry Bike Rack options?

Post by CaliforniaLG »

Hello!

We have narrowed it down to 2 options for our rear entry Destiny - either a ladder rack or a hitch rack - we really would love to find a 2 bike ladder rack that doesn't have terrifying reviews of the bikes falling off and it being unstable.

Anyone out there have hitches for 2 bikes that they love?

Best,

Years ago I got a Yakima swing-away rack for my back hitch. It's big and heavy - definitely don't want to put it on and off every day - but it isn't unstable! The specific model is not available any more, but it seems to work a lot like this one: https://yakima.com/products/fullswing

I went through a similar process with my Chinook and ended up with a Seasucker. I know it's neither a hitch nor ladder, but it's worked really well for me and has left my hitch/ladder open for other things. I use the one bike model, but they do have a two biker as well:

Anyway thought I'd share just in case, as these things are easy to miss. Cheers and congrats on the new rig!

We got a Thule swing away hitch and a 12" extension and it works great. Only issue are the stairs...they don't quite line up with hitch. I'd be interested to learn if anyone modified their steps to accomodate a swing away hitch.

I have the Thule Swing Away with a Kuat double bike rack. Yes, I made modification to the step so it will fold up and down. I will photo and post later today. Should be noted the modification did adjust the hight of steps about one inch.

Some photos of manual step modifications. I believe the modification raised step height 1.5 inches from ground. I am out of welding practice. Therefore, no comments about weld quality.

I wish there were closer pictures of the receiver end to see if it may clear the steps
